I'm sure everyone already knows I have a specialty with orbs, only I always had it centered with a swirly background. This, for once, is definitely a nice change.
There are, however, several noticeable mistakes in the center orb, and my excuse is that upon making this image, my computer decided to choke on the program and create several lines within that exact orb. I got rid of [26] of them, but you will notice some of them still there, and the the top area looks chopped in one area.
Elements: Bottom-left: Wind Bottom-Right: Water Top-Left: Earth Top-Right: Fire
I don't know - this one just seems too dark. Now, I know dark is your thing, but I get the impression there's a lot more going on here that I just don't see. To see, I downloaded it and overexposed the image in my art program, and there is in fact a lot more there, but it's lost in the darkness. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, if that's what you were going for, but it's hard to appreciate what you can't see.
That bring said, after looking at the image in a bit more light, I'm still disappointed, but for different reasons. I see that you're trying to emphasize the four elementals fusing into one, but the outside orbs seem flat, boring. If they felt more like real orbs, if they had some kind of life to them, I'd digg this image a lot more.
I will say, however, that I'm impressed by the lighting effect that you have. It is obvious that the elemental orbs are being lit by what light is coming out from behind the central fuse, and this alone shows the advance in your technique that you've been prone to show each time you do something different.
In all, I like the central fusing orb best. I don't feel it reflects all four of your elementals, but it has a life to it, whether it's the scratching and almost glacier-like texture of the white swath coming down from the top, or the crack of color showing through the middle, like peaking into the middle of an everlasting gobstopper. (Yea, sorry, that's the first thing that came to mind.) I could picture flying in, closer and closer, seeing the surface of this planet, imagining what different kinds of growth or culture there would be in the radically different surface areas.
The central orb captured my imagination. The outside orbs did not. If the image had been visible, that would have been enough, perhaps, but as I had to manipulate the image myself just to be able to see all of that, this one just doesn't make my list.
Sorry to sound so harsh, but you wanted critique. I think you know I'm proud of you regardless.
also, to say what I should've, yea, I should've enhanced the contrast to this much like all my other images, but my type of style I wanted for this was to make it look like an 'authentic' work of art, not to mention 'bolding' the contrast, even if that takes darkening it
My whole purpose to it was to make the central one look like it's full of life, and to do so actually took bolding, lighting, and dulling the elements just to show the sheer 'ower' of the central orb.
